A friend of mine who's not really into foreign movies mistook Meryl Streep for Glenn Close after watching The Devil Wears Prada. Both are great actresses kaya di ko sya masisi to confuse one with the other. Dahil talaga nga namang mukhang Cruella ang lola Meryl mo dito physically – with the short peroxide blond hair, and characteristically - as the slave driver Editor in Chief of Runway, a glossy fashion magazine.
I've been a long time Meryl fan since I saw her in Out of Africa decades ago. And even when she was younger doon sa Deer Hunter, magaling na talaga siya. This film is just another authoritative proof that she can easily dish out any role, mumble any dialog with much precision. Arguably one of the best actresses of the 21st century.
Anne Hathaway was good as the meek-at-the-start-transformed-glamorous-personal assistant pero revelation si Stanley Tucci who is usually identified in tough roles and mob stories but was breathing pink fire here as the gay artistic director of Runway.
This is the mark of a fine movie na kahit mababaw ang story line, malinaw na malinaw naman ang mga characters. Buhay na buhay and well interpreted on screen kasi nga magagaling ang mga gumaganap. Aba eh hindi nila galingan eh di tinilian sila ng lola Meryl mo no.
Even the director, siguradong challenged din sa presence nya, and did a wonderful job making the film look brisk, glossy and entertaining. Kahit di ka masyadong involved sa fashion world, you will find it enjoyable because the focus is on the boss-worker relationship. And I know many of us can relate pagdating sa ganon. Lalo na kung kasing evil ni Miranda ang boss natin.
This is one light, entertaining film which I don't mind seeing over and over again on cable tv.
